Children:

The vast majority of children available for adoption from China are girls ranging in age from 7 months to 12 years. Occasionally boys, infants, twins, and children with minor and more serious medical conditions are also available. Most of the children have been abandoned. All of the children live in orphanages in the south-east region of China.

Adoptive Parent Criteria:

Married couples and single women may adopt "healthy" infants or older children. Married couples must be at least 30 years old with a combined age of no more than 98 years. Single women need to be 34-45 years old. Older children, unless they have a medical condition, are not considered special needs. Divorce is acceptable.

Adoption Process:

Authenticated and translated dossiers are sent to the Adoption Committee in Beijing, China, where they will be reviewed and acceptance determined. The average time to referral is approximately 9-12 months. The Committee will send a referral of a child. Families adopting children 3 and over may receive a referral faster. Families who accept their referral can expect to travel within 8 weeks. Only one spouse needs to travel and the trip is approximately 7-14 days.

China does have post-placement reporting requirements. Reports are due after you are home with your child for one month, then again six months later.
